HENRICO, Va. (WWBT) – Having a furry friend by your side not only brings you joy and comfort but also many health benefits. A local organization is looking to share health by finding homes for rescued animals.
The Henrico Humane Society is a non-profit organization that rescues dogs and cats throughout Central Virginia and places them in loving, forever homes through volunteer-based foster care. Last year, they successfully found forever homes for over 160 dogs and cats.
In an effort to continue its mission, the Henrico Humane Society will host its 23rd annual Pet Expo on Saturday, Feb. 24, from 10 am to 6 pm at the Richmond Raceway Complex.
Visitors can look forward to a fun-filled day with a variety of activities, including a pet parade, puppy and Corgi races, dog contests, a grooming course, dog adoption, and silent auction. More than 50 vendors will be in attendance to display and sell pet-related products and services, including collars, toys, treats, and training courses.
“Pet Expo combines family fun with pet-friendly events and activities for everyone,” said HHS Vice President and event organizer Melissa Golden. “As our flagship fundraising event for more than two decades, Pet Expo allows us to continue to save animals and provide the medical care and support that many of them need before they can be adopted.”
Those who cannot attend will not miss out on the fun. The silent auction and 50/50 raffle will be held virtually. A preview of select Silent Auction items can be seen online today, and bidding begins Thursday, Feb. 22.
The winner of the 50/50 raffle, where one lucky person could win $5000 out of 1000 tickets, will be announced at Pet Expo. However, it is not mandatory to attend the event to win. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $10 each or 5 for $40 either online or at the Pet Expo event.
The admission fee for the Pet Expo is $8 if you buy a ticket online, and $10 if you buy it at the door. Children ages 6-12 get a discounted rate of $5, while children under 6 and pets are admitted free.
All proceeds go to the Henrico Humane Society. Click here, for more information about the Pet Expo.
