At just three months old, a puppy named Comfort was heartlessly abandoned by his family, who left him to fend for himself. A kind bystander who saw the unfortunate incident took the young puppy to a shelter located in Los Angeles, California. Betrayed by those he trusted, Comfort was found cowering in fear behind his prison. Upon her arrival at the shelter, she was clearly suffering from malnutrition and dehydration, and she showed no interest in food. On top of that, he was battling a flea infestation.
Her fear was palpable as she continued to shiver and crouch in her small space, avoiding any eye contact with the shelter workers and fending off their attempts to touch her. The sight of Comfort in such a state of terror distressed the shelter’s staff and volunteers.
Ashely Pittman, who volunteers at the Los Angeles shelter and with A Purposeful Rescue, a non-profit, decided to take action to help Comfort find a foster home. He shared a video of the frightened puppy on Instagram, which quickly gained attention and spread to TikTok, where it went viral.
A foster who saw the video contacted Pittman and A Purposeful Rescue, offering to take Comfort in, and immediately arranged to pick her up from the shelter. While under the care of A Purposeful Rescue, Comfort is welcomed into her foster home, where her foster mother is committed to helping her overcome her fears and reveal her true self. The shelter environment left Comfort feeling uneasy, but her foster mother understood that with time and patience, Comfort would begin to relax.
During her first few days in the foster home, Comfort showed signs of distress, whimpering and seeking refuge under the bed. His adoptive mother gave him unwavering care and love, nurturing Comfort back to a sense of security. Gradually, Comfort began to show signs of improvement, his eyes now shining with hope as he began to settle into his new surroundings. Her foster mom is eagerly anticipating the emergence of Comfort’s full personality. Once Comfort is fully settled in her foster home, the search for her permanent home will begin. The hope is that Comfort will soon be embraced by a forever family who will give her the love and care she deserves, who will love her forever.
