Well, it’s not the worst of winters, but here where I live, winter fishing is almost non-existent. At least in the mountains and more southern climates, fishing continues.
I’ll open this thread with an encouraging email I received from my occasional fishing partner, Hokie Paul.
Although I’m not sure if I was with him, I think I was when he tagged and released a 12″ redfish in Mobjack Bay here in Chesapeake on 8/4/22. That fish was reportedly caught in Owls Creek in Va. Beach on 2/5/24 and measured 25″. The fisherman keeps the fish for dinner.
Not bad growth for 550 days, and it’s interesting that the fish didn’t recover in the south. Paul was also concerned because the water temperature at the time of tagging was 86 degrees and he was concerned for the child’s safety.
Goes to show you, that catch and release works, and that fish gave another angler a decent fight and a decent meal. It also shows me that I need to cultivate friends on the 757. My best friend there has health issues that have hindered his interest, but we used to catch reds and trout in the Elizabeth when the Hot Ditch was out. still.
So anyway, how about we grab a report or two to tide us over in between basketball, softball, baseball and recruiting news. Somebody…DAVE….3rdGEN…FRENCH…give us a report.
