A disabled rescue dog from Iran has won hearts all over the world by taking care of puppies. Known as Sudi, this rescue dog endured excruciating pain, but his story showed the power of resilience, strength, and love.
The story of a disabled rescue dog from Iran
Sudi, a former farm dog from Iran, experienced a remarkable transformation after a cruel past filled with mistreatment and abuse by his former owner. He is physically disabled, resulting in him having only one functional leg. His plight came to light when Sajjad Nadimii, an animal rescue operator in Iran, rescued him from abusive conditions.
Nadimii provided immediate care, but soon realized Sudi needed special treatment for his injuries, including a hip replacement. Two Iranian women working with Nadimii contacted Selma Barroso, an adoption coordinator at Homeward Trails Animal Rescue in Virginia. Barroso successfully arranged to bring Sudi to Homeward Trails in August 2022, pledging to secure funds for her continued care — according to PEOPLE.

While in Virginia, Barroso helped Sudi find a foster home and actively participated in his extensive veterinary care and treatment. Despite enduring multiple surgeries to restore mobility, Sudi, with her loving nature, began helping her foster parents take care of the other rescue puppies in the household — called Sudi’s daycare. Barroso said Sudi enjoys teaching the puppies polite behavior, which improves their chances of being adopted.
As playful Sudi mastered the role of a guardian, finding her forever home wasn’t easy. Due to Sudi’s lengthy surgeries, preferences for smaller dogs, and assertiveness, the search for the perfect home continues. “He has no issue with strangers. He is very obedient,” Barroso added. “I believe he has completely forgiven people for what his previous owner did to him.”
The founder of Homeward Trails, Sue Bell, seeks to use Sudi’s story to raise awareness of animal cruelty. To know more about Homeward Trails and Sudi’s adoption, you can visit their official website.
