In recent months, many trusted dog food brands have faced recalls due to contamination concerns. As a result, this has led to questions from pet owners about the potential recalls Wellness Dog Foodsame as 2024 and before. Let’s dive deeper into the matter.
When was the last Wellness dog food recall?
Since Wellness started in 1997, their dog food has been remembered a lot. The the most recent recall of Wellness dog food occurred in 2017.
Since then, the brand of dog food has not been recalled. In fact, their parent company, WellPet, has become one of the largest pet food companies in the world.
Why did Wellness recall its dog food?
As of March 2017, specific batches of Wellness 95% Beef Topper for Dogs, available in 13.2 oz. cans recalled. The reason behind this recall is the potentially high levels of beef thyroid hormone.
According to WellPet, high levels of this hormone can affect a dog’s metabolism, leading to increased urine output, increased thirst, weight loss, and anxiety.
The recalled products consist of:
- Wellness 95% Beef Topper for Dogs
- Size: 13.2-ounce can
- Best-By Dates: February 2, 2019, August 29, 2019 and August 30, 2019
Research suggests that symptoms associated with high thyroid hormone levels in pets are usually reversible when consumption of the implicated product is stopped. Since the recipe is designed as a mixer or topper for intermittent or supplementary feeding, the possibility of a negative effect on a dog is minimal.
WellPet has not received any reports of health issues arising from consumption of the affected product. However, as an added precaution, the company has voluntarily recalled three best-by dates.
In February 2017, the company also faced recalls of their cat food. They voluntarily recalled some canned cat food products due to the potential presence of foreign material.
