Portuguese retailer Sonae is leading a group of investors that has filed an offer worth €868 million (US$936 million) to take over Finland’s pet care specialist Musti Group.
“As part of the strategy to grow and internationalize its retail portfolio, Sonae has decided to strengthen its presence in the pet care retail sector by acquiring Musti, where it already has a minority position developed in months ago,” Sonae said in a statement.
“The takeover bid valued the company at €868 million, in terms of equity and was made jointly by two directors and the CEO of Musti,” the Portuguese retailer said.
The Musti Group describes itself as the leading Nordic pet care specialist operating in Finland, Norway and Sweden.
Omni announces partnership to boost sales in Europe, prepare new products
UK vegan pet food business Omni has announced that it is entering into a partnership with Europe’s largest pet food retailer, German company Fressnapf. The producer is also preparing to launch a new product range next year, according to a senior company representative.
“Fressnapf has more than 1,400 stores in Europe,” the pet food business said in a statement. “The omni plant, yeast and algae protein dog food products will be available for the first time to Fressnapf’s large customer base online which is a huge endorsement and push into the mainstream for the leading health and sustainable British brand.”
According to Omni, the products available at Fressnapf are Omni’s dry life stage diets tailored for puppy, adult and senior dogs along with its popular functional treats such as Peaceful Dogs, Supported Joints and Sensitive Tummies.
The latest development comes amid a rapid increase in the company’s sales. The pet food business said since January 2023, it has been able to increase its sales by more than 70%.
Guy Sandelowsky, a cofounder of Omni, said Petfoodindustriya.com in a statement that the company is ready to launch new products in 2024.
“Next year, we will be launching our innovative, once-a-day range of soft chew supplements formulated to target specific health concerns such as joint pain and separation anxiety, again without the use of any artificial ingredients. animal,” Sandelowsky said.
Omni produces its wet food in the Netherlands and Poland. It said it is focusing efforts on expanding sales in Germany, The Netherlands, France, Italy and Switzerland.
Polish poultry meat producer to boost supplies as new pet food factory under construction
Polish poultry meat producer KPS Food plans to increase its manufacturing capacities in connection with a new pet food factory currently under construction by United Petfood.
In September, the pet food company launched its project to open a new production facility in Jedlińsk, in Poland’s central Mazovia region, where the business plans to produce premium pet food.
“The premium segment of the pet food market is developing, as shown by the increasing awareness of owners about [their] nutrition of pets,” Jarosław Krzyżanowski, the chief executive of KPS Food, told local business news site Dlahandlu.pl. “For KPS Food, this represents another field where we can use our raw materials and optimize the production of chicken meat.”
“The multidimension development of KPS Food results in strengthening the company’s position, which allows us to think about further investments,” continued Krzyżanowski. “We already have [such] plans for 2024.”
KPS Food operates a factory in Pionki and Radom, near Jedlińsk.
