The feeling when a fish hits your bait, you set the hook, and the fight with it is one of the best you can have.
And when the fish is big, it reaches levels close to euphoria. But the feeling of going to that suction on the shore or boat and losing it, well… can be horrible.
I have to imagine this poor bald eagle is feeling all kinds of bad in this video from Olympic National Park in Washington.
The tourists saw the eagle swimming in a river and immediately knew something was up. Although they were no strangers to the water, from the way he was moving it was clear that he had grabbed something large and was unable to take any lift out of the water.
After swimming over to the fallen tree, he pulled it up the log and down and here was a good sized fish. Since the video was shot at a distance, it’s hard to tell what species it is exactly, but it seems to be some kind of trout.
A bald eagle’s blush is not as big ran over in Wisconsinbut certainly enough to feed herself and any babies back in the nest.
But there was still a problem… the eagle couldn’t get out of the air, the fish was too heavy.
Despite several efforts, nothing works. You really start to feel bad for him when he starts looking around, apparently checking to see if anyone is noticing, but probably looking for anything that makes for an easy meal.
As the video cuts away before we see what he decided to do, I hope he just ate half of it, or at least flew a few pieces back to the nest to share and enjoy.
Because the feeling of losing a big catch at the last second… well, it’s just sad.
