Downtown Highland Park went to the dogs — and cats and other pets.
Pets4Life, an all-in-one pet facility, celebrated its arrival at a prime downtown location, 661 Central Ave., with a grand opening on Wednesday, Jan. 9.
Friends, neighbors and city officials stopped by the new business Wednesday to enjoy the festivities, including treats for people and dogs and a ribbon cutting.
The business got final approval from the city in early 2023 and has since built its two storefronts, 659 and 661 Central, which from 2002 to 2016 housed Running Right and Alberto’s Cycles, respectively .
Pets4Life offers full-service veterinary care, featuring surgical rooms, a pharmacy, and overnight capabilities. It also has doggie daycare and grooming on its lower level and sells retail items on its main floor.
Siblings and dog lovers Greg Gibson, of Highland Park, and Meg Gibson Revord, of Winnetka, founded Pets4Life about two years ago, leading to a storefront in Highland Park. Greg Gibson said after looking at many spaces, Highland Park’s high visibility area was a big selling point for the owners.
Gibson Revord, an attorney with experience in health care, said he and his brother have seen issues with veterinary care, including rising costs associated with financial problems among veterinarians. They believe the Pets4Life structure will help alleviate some of that pressure.
The pet care facility officially opened a few weeks ago, and Greg Gibson has enjoyed the warm reception.
“People are really welcoming to the town,” he said. “It seems like the kind of town where people want to support local businesses.”
Pets4Life veterinary services are open from 8 am-6 pm Monday-Friday and 8 am-2 pm Saturday; grooming from 8 am-5 pm Monday-Friday and 8 am-2 pm Saturday; and retail 10 am-5 pm Monday-Saturday.
