Over time, there has been a shift from feeding dog leftovers to owners including dry and healthy meals for their canine companions in their monthly budget, and when it comes to annual expenses, South Africa is one of cheapest places to feed your dog, while Japan is considered the most expensive.
This is according to a survey conducted by CashNetUSA following research on the average cost of dog food, including dry kibble and wet food, from local supermarkets in 97 countries around the world.
The survey found, on average, the annual cost of dog food in South Africa is $267.81 (R4 994), making it the fifth lowest globally.
