Press release: Petcurean
Petcurean, the award-winning manufacturer of premium pet food brands Go! Solutions, New Now, Gather and Summit, is excited to share its third annual Sustainability Impact Report, which reflects the company’s ongoing journey to translate ambition into action and reaffirms its commitment to being a sustainability leader in the premium pet food industry. The report highlights impressive initiatives in fiscal year 2023 that demonstrate Petcurean’s progress in achieving their ambitious sustainability goals for the betterment of pets, people and the planet. Furthermore, these achievements clearly define the company’s commitment to continue to protect the planet, strengthen its teams, energize their communities and commitment to management in the year ahead.
“Our third annual Sustainability Impact Report builds on the momentum we have achieved in recent years to demonstrate our commitment to making sustainability progress through measurable actions,” said Christine Mallier, sustainability and community relations manager at Petcurean . “Every part of our business is positively impacted by our efforts to promote sustainability – it’s more than just a vision, it’s integral to who we are as a Company. And, while we recognize that there is more to do, we also celebrate the incredible strides we have made over the past 12 months and are excited to share the results of these efforts.”
Now in the final year of its first four-year sustainability plan, Petcurean’s strong commitment to sustainability has seen the Company reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 40 percent in FY23, surpassing its initial goal of reducing emissions of 20 percent by 2030. The company has also taken important steps to understand the complete picture of its emissions by measuring Scope 3 GHG emissions throughout its value chain. Petcurean calculates emissions from all major sources important to the business, including ingredients (and their transport), packaging (and its transport), pet food manufacturing, employee business travel, waste in Head Office, and more. This data will be used to develop a plan to help reduce Petcurean’s Scope 3 emissions.
Additional sustainability achievements highlighted in Petcurean’s sustainability report include:
- Launch of recyclable kibble bags: Petcurean is a Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) Accredited Company with Icon membership status and one of the five inaugural signatories of PSC’s Packaging Pledge committing Petcurean to transition its packaging to recyclable by 2025. - Launching a novel insect protein recipe: Petcurean launches Go! Solutions Sensitivities Limited Ingredient Grain-Free Insect Recipe for dogs and cats. This recipe is an eco-friendly pet food option made with black soldier fly larvae, which uses 80% less land and water resources than traditional proteins found in pet food .
- Achieving zero waste: By 2023, Petcurean has successfully reduced total waste-to-landfill by 83 percent from fiscal 2022. Zero waste is achieved when <10 percent goes to landfill. - Intended to return: In fiscal 2023, Petcurean donated more than 2.4 million pet meals to 764 rescues, shelters and food banks across North America.
