As we often do recently at the children’s hospital, we started with the surgical site. They had a lot of patients this morning, and we saw a couple awake. Both women. The younger one hugged me and asked a lot of questions about me. The second was a teen girl who almost melted when she saw me and took lots of pictures.
The surgery and rehab area were both on the second floor, so we followed that. The first patient I saw in the waiting room was a 6-year-old girl with a wrist brace. He came up to me and hugged me while his parents spoke in Spanish and English. The rehab place itself had two boys I was with. My brother was very happy to see me. She has cats at home and is definitely a kitty person. The second boy, younger, maybe 7, lit up when he saw me too. He took a break from his exercises, which included picking up plastic keys with his feet, to give me a hug.
As we were leaving, the first guy’s mom mentioned that her daughter was in the waiting room and that she missed me sadly (she was sleeping when we were there). So my man took me to see him before we went down. At the children’s hospital, like every facility I visit, I am there for the staff and support family as much as I am for the patients.
The lobby, which was almost empty when we arrived, was filled with several young patients. Before going to the test site, I visited a teenage girl and her mother. The first child I saw in the exam rooms was a very young toddler who had never seen a kitten. He was a bit scared and unsure of me. Despite her parents’ attempts to encourage her, she refused to touch me. That’s okay. He is still very young.
The last patient we saw in the exam rooms was a boy wearing leg braces, and his sister. They were both very happy to see me, and kept playing with my legs and tail. They have a cat at home (their mom showed my person a picture of her), so they know how to be gentle, but not many cats like little hands on them like that. I don’t care because I know they’re good kids, and my human watches them the whole time to make sure I’m always safe. So it was a good visit and I posed for a photo with them both.
I always enjoy my visits to this hospital.
