A dog expert shared a video on TikTok explaining the best way to store your pet’s food, leaving some owners to question whether they’ve been doing it wrong all along.
Dog food storage mistakes can cause serious illness in your pet. Dog expert Rachel Fusaro shares regular dog tips on her TikTok page, including how to properly store your pet’s food. In a video, he explains that container size matters and advises: “Bag size matters. Only get a size that’s big enough so you can feed the entire bag in 30 days or less. the bag.”
He also reminded viewers to secure the bag and not pour the food into a container, saying: “Don’t forget the bag clip and remember that the original packaging is designed to retain the nutrients in the food, so we can’t want you to pour it into something else.” Finally, he recommends using sturdy/stainless steel storage containers over plastic ones for safety reasons.

The post has been liked more than 360,000 times and received nearly 3,000 responses from eager dog owners. However, many are skeptical of the need to store food inside a bag. One person wrote: “20+yrs I’ve been emptying a bag into a container. Think I’ll keep doing it..” Another said: “Umm I work in an animal hospital and we put our food in a container.”
Another person gave a good reason to always get rid of their dog food bags, saying: “I used to never throw away my bag and then found maggots in a bag and now I always throw away my bag .” Additional advice on the use of containers was offered by a viewer, who said: “Don’t forget the potential storage of mites when using plastic containers! they can cause an allergy flare-up! While a person appears who was dismayed after seeing the video and said: “I really can’t do anything right as a dog owner.”
