WARRICK CO., Ind. (WFIE) – Indiana State Police troopers have made a third arrest in connection with their investigation at Warrick County Animal Control (WCAC).
Police identified the woman as 35-year-old Jamie Hubiak of Newburgh.
Police have arrested two others, WCAC employees Danielle Barnes and Susan Broshears, in their investigation.
Barnes and Broshears both face multiple felony charges for adoption fees stolen from WCAC.
According to an affidavit, Hubiak is the owner of Specialty pet Grooming, Daycare and Boarding in Evansville.
Witnesses told police that Hubiak helped former animal control supervisor Danielle Barnes steal an estimated $102,900 in veterinary services from Warrick County.
Barnes was arrested in December.
Troopers say, in many cases, Hubiak would surrender the purebred dogs to animal control and then take them back into custody, hours later, after the county paid for the vaccinations and microchipping.
That’s when state police said Hubiak would list these animals on the Specialty Pet Grooming website to make money.
On one occasion in January, police said Hubiak surrendered seven black poodle puppies to WCAC. Trooper Patrick Stinson said these animals were vaccinated and then vetted by him the same day before being listed at Specialty Pet Grooming for $350 each.
Since 2019, Stinson said Hubiak has adopted 343 animals. Although some records were missing, she said she did not pay any adoption fees to animal control in 2023.
In an interview with police, Hubiak said he got many of the dogs he surrendered and then adopted through his pet grooming business.
ISP detective William Campbell wrote in a statement that Hubiak told him their investigation was “a waste of time.” Campbell also reported that he said, “true crimes should come out of the investigation.”
Hubiak is now facing four charges, including felony theft, corrupt business influence, conspiracy to commit theft and misdemeanor theft.
