Is Purina recalling its dog food in 2024?
In a recent statement shared by company spokeswoman, Lorie Westhoff, Purina vehemently denied the ongoing claims. Moreover, he maintains that the company has not recalled any dog food.
The global pet food manufacturer has broken the silence once again, assuring concerned pet owners that their products are completely safe for their canine companions.
“Over the past few days, we’ve seen an increase in consumers getting scared and reaching out to ask if we have a product recall or issue after seeing this rumor,” Westhoff said. “In response, we inform them that these rumors are not true and that our food is safe to eat.” (via The New York Times)
Additionally, Westhoff confirmed that they investigated the online claims and found “absolutely no data that shows us that there is a pattern of problems with any particular product.”
The spokeswoman further emphasized Purina’s commitment to high pet food safety standards. He shared: “As a company that feeds more than 100 million cats and dogs each year, we never compromise on pet health.”
When was the last Purina dog food recall?
In March 2023, Purina had to recall its dry dog food after discovering that the products contained higher amounts of vitamin D than the levels recommended by the FDA.
The company has asked dog owners who have already purchased the products to throw them away and contact their team for refunds. While vitamin D is an important nutrient in a dog’s diet, too much of it is harmful.
In dogs, too much vitamin D can lead to excessive salivation, loss of appetite, vomiting, excessive thirst, increased urination, kidney failure, and even death.
