You’ve seen the adorable feline film teaser of the bubble backpack-encased cat — and now your adventurous kitty can get their very own For Argy-inspired travel gear.
The cat caper comedy has teamed up with pet brand Travel Cat on an exclusive range of accessories for feisty felines. Available for pre-order on the brand’s website, the collection ($15-$140) features the best-selling Fat Cat backpack in movie-inspired yellow and blue argyle prints along with collar and bandana sets, leash and harness bundles and even a “ paw- tobiography” written by Chip, the four-pawed star of the movie and the cat of model Claudia Vaughn (née Schiffer) and her husband, For Argy director Matthew Vaughn. (Chip also serves as “creative director” for the collaboration.)
Inspired by the book of the same name, the film Apple Originals stars Bryce Dallas Howard as reclusive spy thriller novelist Elly Conway, who dreams up a best-selling series of books about the fictional super spy Argylle (Henry Cavill). The plot twist? His story coincidentally mirrors the mission of a real-life spy syndicate, which puts him in the cross-hairs of dangerous secret agents. Sam Rockwell, John Cena, Dua Lipa, Bryan Cranston, Ariana DeBose, Catherine O’Hara and Samuel L. Jackson also star in the film, which hits theaters this Friday.
The For Argy Cat backpacks feature a bubble window, a comfortable seat pad and air vents, and hold pets up to 15 pounds (so it can also accommodate small puppies). The harnesses are adjustable and include a four-foot nylon leash, along with a reflective strip for visibility while walking at night. Bandanas and collars have a break-away design for safety.
The For Argy x The Travel Cat collection will begin shipping on March 15 and launch on Amazon in late March or early April, around the same time the film is expected to be available to stream online. (It will be available to buy or rent on Prime Video, and later this year on Apple TV+.)
“My comment section is full of furendly people asking me where I get all my looks,” Chip said in a release. “So when we started working on this collection, I knew you wouldn’t stop meowing until you had your own For Argy bag It’s just like the one I used in the movie, and I know you’ll love it as much as I do. I mean, I spent months ‘way’ acting here to help save the cinema. No small task.”
Chip added the blue “Spy” cat backpack, “a week after I wrapped filming For Argy, I had a vivid dream about this bag. ‘If you build it, they will come,’ a voice whispered through a crowd of clouds of cotton candy and Chanel tweed. The pops of color, the fine lines of the argyle print, the extra room for hosting. This is my dream bag. Maybe I can convince my dad to use it in the sequel. Who am I kidding, I make all the decisions around.”
At New York Comic Con last fall, Matthew Vaughn revealed, “there’s all this weird shit online that says it’s not true. [Argylle is] a real book — but I couldn’t get a book.”
He continued: “We wanted to do something very meta,” he said. “I just loved the idea of what would happen if a wizard went to JK Rowling in the third book and said, ‘You know what? Wizards are real. Hogwarts is real. I’m real. I’ll show you what it really is,’ and going on an adventure … We thought, ‘We’ll do that with spies.’ So Elly Conway, I think, in real life will be the JK Rowling of spy movies, of spy novels.”
