MIRAMAR, Fla. – A heartbroken Miramar woman blames a mobile grooming service for her dog’s death.
Ines Jorge’s beloved French bulldog, named Fendi, died in mid-September. Jorge said it happened while Fendi and his other dog were being groomed by a mobile grooming service, Love Dog Grooming.
“He’s been grooming our dog for over a year, so we feel comfortable and safe,” Jorge said. “We didn’t think about that.”
But something went wrong on September 13.
After more than an hour in the van, Jorge said the owner started calling him, saying he didn’t finish Fendi’s haircut, and returned their other dog before returning for Fendi.
“45 seconds later, he came out with my dog wrapped in a blanket, with his head hanging down, gasping and he looked dead,” said Jorge.
They tried to wrap him in wet towels and put him on a ventilator, then rushed him to a nearby vet, where they spent hours trying to treat him.
Eventually, they moved to another veterinary hospital in Aventura, but it was too late: Fendi had to be put down.
“Fendi is not just a dog. He is my son. I did everything for him. That’s my baby,” said Jorge. “I miss him, and nothing can bring him back.”
Jorge then posted a review about his experience on the company’s webpage.
The owner responded and denied responsibility, saying when the dog started showing signs of distress, he gave it water, that things changed in a few seconds and his heart was broken.
But Jorge says he’s not buying it.
“If he would have said, ‘I’m sorry this happened to my truck, is there anything I can do?'” Jorge said. “But at this point, there’s nothing he can do to make me feel better about those words.”
By the time Fendi went to the vet, her temperature was at 108 degrees, which is about the same as a person with a 105-degree fever.
The owner of the grooming company told Local 10 News that he did not want to be interviewed and said the dog had health issues. Jorge denied that.
Family members have created a GoFundMe page to help with expenses.
