DERBY, Kan. (KAKE) – Louisa Davila with Fuzzie Was He Pet Grooming called KAKE News Tuesday morning to share the good news that the business is back up and running. Read below for more of what happened last week.
After a pet grooming facility in Goddard was hit by a car in a random accident Thursday, another pet grooming facility in Derby on Friday suffered the same fate.
“I don’t know how long it will take to fix it,” said Louisa Davila, a manager at Fuzzie Was He.
Louisa Davila has been working in pet grooming for over 30 years, and at Fuzzie Was He in Derby for over 20. What she experienced on the job, was unlike anything she had ever experienced before.
“We were surprised. Around 7:45 this morning (Friday) we were all working at our tables and we heard an explosion,” said Davila.
That explosion was actually a car crashing into the front of the building, causing damage inside and out.
“I thought it was a gas explosion outside. That’s strong and powerful. I was just shocked and there was no damage to the lady’s car. He just had a little scratch,” said Davila.
Davila said an elderly customer got confused driving past the groomers and accidentally crashed into the front of Fuzzie Was He.
“No one was hurt. He’s fine. All the dogs are fine. Fortunately, they’re on the other side of the building. But it’s a bit scary, as you can see it did a lot of damage,” said Davila.
There were five dogs and five groomers inside when the accident happened but no one was injured, just broken blocks.
The repair facility was forced to close its doors until the damage was fully assessed and repaired.
“We’re waiting for the insurance to get back to us and see if there’s structural damage or if it’s something they can fix in a few days,” Davila said.
Fuzzie Was He wasn’t sure when they would reopen but the goal was clear.
“To get it fixed as soon as possible and get everybody back to work and all the dogs on schedule,” Davila said.
The total cost of the damage is still unclear, but management hopes insurance will cover the costs.
