KANSAS CITY, MO. — Manufacturers in the pet food arena are ramping up production to serve the dogs and cats living in the 86.9 million households across the United States. Not only are companies and brands investing in their capacities and capabilities, but they are also honing their portfolios to bring the latest and greatest nutritional innovations to market.
According to the American Pet Products Association, food and treat purchases will represent the majority of pet industry sales in 2022, with approximately $58.1 billion spent to feed and treat four-legged companions in whole country. Despite inflationary pressures in 2023, these non-discretionary purchases are expected to continue the industry’s growth in the coming years.
In the last six months of 2023, Pet Food Processing covers around 70 new product launches, from tailored diets and targeted supplements to functional treats and food-enhancing toppers. While each product has its own claim and purpose, all are supported by an industry increasingly driven by emerging formats, new ingredients, and up-and-coming approaches to keeping pets healthy and happy.
