According to The International Cat Association (TICA), there are more than 70 standardized cat breeds.1 Each of these races brings something unique to the table, whether it’s a unique personality trait or a unique physical trait. Today, we’re taking a deep dive into a particular physical feature that you might not think about often unless you’ve seen a cat with an odd shape: noses.
Cat noses look pretty much the same from breed to breed, but there are some little kitties with longer-than-usual noses, so let’s dive deep into 11 of the most adorable long-nosed cat breeds!
Classification of Long Noses
Breeds with long noses definitely stand out from those of “normal” size simply because of the physical space their nose takes up on their face. While there’s no exact size that makes one cat’s nose “long” and another’s “normal,” you’ll know by looking at the breeds below that their noses are a little extra.
The 11 Long Nosed Cat Breeds
1. Oriental Shorthair

Forever: | 12 to 15 years |
Height: | 9 to 11 inches |
The Oriental Shorthair is perhaps one of the most well-known cat breeds with a long nose. These instantly recognizable kittens have wedge-shaped heads and long tubular bodies with slender legs and tails. Their coats are very short and shiny, with different colors and patterns.
The svelte Oriental Shorthair belongs to the Siamese family of cat breeds and is known for their intelligence, vocalization, and athleticism.
2. Chausie

Forever: | 10 to 15 years |
Height: | 14 to 15 inches |
This rare cat breed is a long-legged, statuesque specimen built for running and leaping. Their bodies are limber and beautiful, like an Olympic athlete. Their deep chest allows them to breathe deeply, adding to their seemingly endless source of energy. Their noses are medium to wide, becoming slightly wider between the eyes.
The Chausie was the first hybrid between a jungle and a domestic cat. They are known for their intelligence, curiosity, and high energy levels.
3. Oriental Longhair

Forever: | 12 to 15 years |
Height: | 8 to 10 inches |
The Oriental Longhair, like its Shorthair counterpart, belongs to the Siamese breed group. They share the same body type, except for different colors with semi-long, silky coats on their elegant and beautiful bodies. They have the same trademark wedge-shaped heads that their shorter-haired counterparts are known for.
The Oriental Longhair is an expressive cat with a loud voice that they use often. They are very active, intelligent, and loyal.
4. Highlander

Forever: | 10 to 15 years |
Height: | 15 to 22 inches |
The Highlander is a relatively new breed of cat, which began breeding in 2004. These large and powerful cats are easy to spot because of their loosely curled ears and long sloping foreheads. Their noses are wide and long, with larger nasal skin than most cats. The muzzle, chin, and nose give the Highlander a boxy muzzle look.
These cats love to play and thrive in the company of people. They are relatively quiet but very powerful, especially when it comes to chasing and hunting.
5. Siamese

Forever: | 15 to 20 years |
Height: | 10 to 17 inches |
Siamese cats are another almost instantly recognizable breed. These medium-sized cats are sleek and refined with long, tapering lines. Their heads, like the Oriental breeds we mentioned above, are wedge-shaped. The breed standard requires the Siamese to have a long and straight nose that continues from the forehead without a break.
Siamese cats are known for their incredible intelligence, loving nature, and strong opinions. They are very extroverted and tend to have a strong bond with a particular person in their family.
6. Turkish Van

Forever: | 12 to 17 years |
Height: | 10 to 14 inches |
The Turkish Van is a beautiful breed known for its unique and distinctive patterning. All Turkish Vans are white cats with colored tails and head markings. This breed is a solidly built and semi-long-haired specimen with a broad, wedge-shaped head and pink skin on their long nose.
The Turkish Van is a friendly, sociable, and energetic family companion. They thrive on companionship and need lots of attention.
7. Ragdoll
Source: | United States |
Forever: | 13 to 18 years |
Height: | 9 to 11 inches |
The Ragdoll is one of the largest cat breeds and one of the slowest growing. They can take up to four years to reach full maturity. These medium long-haired, blue-eyed cats have pointed markings. While their noses aren’t as long as others on our list, they are definitely longer than other cat breeds, so we had to include them.
Ragdolls are very layback cats. They are known for their gentle, calm, and friendly personalities. Although less demanding than the Turkish Van, Ragdolls can have a dog-like devotion to their humans.
8. Savannah
Source: | United States |
Forever: | 12 to 20 years |
Height: | 13 to 20 inches |
The Savannah cat has a short to medium length coat with coarse guard hair covering the softer undercoat. They are tall, thin, and elegant, with dark spots and bold markings. These striking cats result from the crossbreeding of African Servals and domestic cats, hence their “wild” appearance.
Savannahs are playful, friendly, and loyal. They love to play in the water and form strong bonds with their owners. However, they are not the right breed for everyone as they require adequate space and stimulation compared to other domestic cats.
9. Cornish Rex
Source: | Britain |
Forever: | 11 to 15 years |
Height: | 8 to 12 inches |
The Cornish Rex is incredibly unique, standing out from the rest because of their soft, curly coat. Their heads are small compared to their body size and egg-shaped. Their noses are often described as “Roman noses” as when they are viewed in profile, the prominent nasal bridges appear curved.
Cornish Rex cats are curious and bubbly companions who get along well with everyone. They are very loving and people-oriented, so they need a little attention to stay happy.
10. Abyssinian
Source: | Egypt |
Forever: | 9 to 15 years |
Height: | 12 to 16 inches |
The Abyssinian is a medium-sized cat with a regal appearance. They are mild, hard, and muscular, with a slightly rounded wedge-shaped head. Odd-looking, thin cats have long noses that should be in a straight line with the chin when viewed in profile.
Abyssinians are very friendly, curious, and active cats with outgoing personalities. They love to play but are easily bored, requiring a fair amount of interaction and constant access to toys to stay happy and healthy.
11. Russian Blue
Source: | Russia |
Forever: | 12 to 15 years |
Height: | 9 to 11 inches |
Russian Blues have a smooth, wedge-shaped head and large ears with a wide base. They have long tails and skinny legs. These cats vary in color from a bright, shiny silver to a dark, slate gray. Their coats are short and dense and stand out from their bodies.
Russian Blues are usually quiet and may be reserved around strangers. They are curious, calm, and loving, although they are not as clingy as the other breeds we have discussed so far.
Final Thoughts
Although the 11 cat breeds above have larger than average noses, that doesn’t mean they’re the only breeds with longer schnozzes. Each individual cat will have a nose size that is unique to them, so even if your cat’s breed isn’t on our list above, that doesn’t mean they can’t grow a longer nose.
