The cruelty some dogs endure is unimaginable, and a recent case shocked many at the heartlessness of one individual. What began as a disturbing act of animal abuse, however, turned into a heartwarming story of resilience and a second chance at happiness. On July 17, the Humane Society of Atlantic County (HSAC), located in Atlantic City, New Jersey, was alarmed by surveillance footage captured by a man throwing a dog over the fence of their shelter.
Heartbreaking footage showed the dog being picked up and carelessly thrown, landing painfully on its side. Even more troubling, the shelter revealed that this is the fourth time the same individual has abandoned a dog in this manner. The shelter urged the public to help identify the man, hoping to hold him accountable.
The dog, named Snookie by staff, was immediately taken in by HSAC. Her condition is disturbing—Snookie has strange scars on her back, suggesting a history of abuse or neglect. Despite her troubled past, Snookie’s story became brighter in the months that followed.
As of September 20th, HSAC has great news to share: Snookie has been adopted by a loving family in Texas! A heartwarming video posted by the shelter showed Snookie living her best life, running and happily playing in her new backyard with her new dog brother. The two pups even have their own pool to splash around in.
In addition to Snookie’s happy ending, HSAC also revealed that the man responsible for abandoning her has been identified and charges have been filed against her. This news brought further relief to those who followed Snookie’s journey and hoped for justice.
Social media was filled with messages of support and joy for Snookie. “So happy to know she has a better life than her abuser!” one commenter wrote on their Facebook page. Another added, “I was in tears when I saw him happy in his new home. This is the ending he really deserves.”
