Richard and I went to do the WebS count for Castlemartin Corse this morning. I don’t think I’ve ever seen corse as dry as it is today!
Where I stand usually represents wet feet! This is where ducks usually hide in open water! |
The resulting count for WeBS was a bit sparse with a grand total of 10 Snipe, 1 Water Rail (single call from the reeds) and 2 Gray Heron!
The raptors however have recovered from this, with a female Kestrel first seen hunting in the fields east of the hide. A male Sparrowhawk made a brief appearance. A 3+CY Female Marsh Harrier was seen on the north side of the corse and a buzzard on a fence post.
3 Whinchats were a definite highlight of the other species seen or heard.

There has been work on the path since I visited a few weeks ago which will hopefully help with access going forward. Soil is being developed along the main track and a new sleeper over one of the drainage ditches.
