We are talking now. Boats across the Northeast took advantage of a mid-week weather window, and the tuna, in the canyons at least, were there and hungry.

The giant bite continues to be reliable for skippers in Rhode Island. Boats have been running surface-feeding GBFTs off Cape Cod, and while the bait has been picking up fish, casting with topwaters has proven frustrating. A light-tackle tuna bite is picking up around Massachusetts, but captains are keeping details close to the vest. Boats fishing east of Chatham mid-week reported sporadic action. South of Martha’s Vineyard has more tuna life. Stellwagen and north to Maine, there was a fair display of fish as entertaining as this season.
Like New York and New Jersey, the canyons have been hot, and this is proving to be a good year for bigeye.
The coolest catch of the week was by Thomas DiChiaro, who spotted a fnning white marlin on his way to the tuna yard and fed it on a metal jig. Check the video here.
