I don’t know why US Independence Day has to be so loud! With so many pet owners in the country, you’d think they’d do something about that. But every year around the Fourth of July, dogs and cats are traumatized by all the loud bangs and explosions. We have very sensitive ears and this is horrible.
Fortunately, fireworks don’t bother me too much. My man is always doing things to distract me, and I feel pretty safe overall. But many cats struggle with the fourth, so I have a few suggestions that will help.
One is to create a private, quiet environment for your cat. A room with curtains or shutters drawn to block out some of the noise, and containing some of their most favorite and familiar items. If your cat prefers to hide under the bed during fireworks, make it as comfortable as possible under there for them.
Include a scratcher in the bedroom, as one way cats relieve stress is by scratching.
Cat toys that your cat likes are always a good addition. During the noisiest part of the night, my human usually turns on the air conditioner (the noise!), and plays with an interactive toy like my RompiCatz Cattipeed. (Affiliate link)
And don’t forget your cat’s favorite treats! Some cats may be too sad to be hungry, but they may want something tasty later.
I have some more tips for you in the video below.
So if you live in the US, like us, have a safe and sane holiday!
