I started my cat therapy visit at the big hospital a little differently. My guy had some volunteer supplies dropped off, and since it was in the same building as the Cancer Center, that’s where we went first. Except the Cancer Center is empty! They finished early and the nurse went home. So I visited the receptionist for a few minutes before heading to Labor and Delivery.
I haven’t been to Labor and Delivery in a while, but when I do, it’s always fun! Nurses love seeing therapy pets and they get excited. And they announced our arrival over the intercom. One patient really wanted to see me, and he was so kind and cat-loving! While we were visiting, I adjusted myself to the bed. I could stay there all afternoon, but I have other places to go.
Next we went to Pediatrics, which I have always enjoyed. It wasn’t too busy, but there was a family who was very happy to see me! The patient was a four-year-old boy, and he and his sister were both sitting on his bed. Their parents were also there. They had a lot of fun petting me, and even though the kid was young, he wasn’t rough on me. Passionate, but not rough. My man took an Instamatic picture of me with the kids, and it turned out really cute.
There were a few other patients in Pediatrics, but I didn’t see them. One just came out of surgery and is still recovering. The other had a doctor in his room, and he was staying. So I visited the residents for a while, but then it was time for me to go to Behavioral Medicine.
We have to visit Behavioral Medicine at a certain time because things are very structured there, and that wing is locked. Today, I have three patients to see: a very quiet woman; a tall, thin young man; and a happy old man. It was really nice when they visited me, and I even put my foot in the woman’s hand. Two nurses also came with the visit because they wanted to see me. They asked a few questions about me and therapy animals in general. So my man was happy to talk about it.
It was a great visit! Even better it’s the summer solstice, so it’s kind of my day. A few people even mentioned it.
