The FDA has issued two public alerts in four days about a human food product that has been linked to 12 human illnesses.
The FDA has issued ZERO public alert regarding pet food products resulted in 971 reports of illness (to the FDA) in one month, including more than 100 pet deaths in the same one-month time frame.
Despite numerous email requests, Freedom of Information Act requests, and even submitting a Citizen Petition for more information – the FDA flatly refused to give pet owners information about why so many pets are sick and dying.
We should wonder…
If the pet foods involved in the 971 illness reports in one month were raw pet food…we assume the FDA would issue multiple public alerts within days of receiving the illness reports. History has shown us that the agency has taken prompt and public action against many raw pet food manufacturers (often going beyond their regulatory boundaries to do so).
What we don’t have to wonder…
The FDA has a double standard. They actively and immediately alert the public to some foods, but completely ignore others – even though they received 971 reports of illness and more than 100 deaths in one month.
Sadly, the FDA’s actions these days are almost predictable. If it is raw pet food or human food…we will see Warning Letters and Public Alerts. But if it’s a major manufacturer of kibble pet food…nope.
About. Who exactly is the FDA protecting?
