PHOENIX, AZ – Maricopa County Animal Care & Control (MCACC) is excited to announce its Mission Microchip event to offer free end-of-year microchipping services to help keep pets safe and in their homes .
MCACC will offer appointments every day of the week. For now, the free service is only available at the West shelter, but appointments will be offered at the new East shelter in the summer. Advance registration is required, and the MCACC hopes that all Maricopa County dog owners will take advantage of this free service.
Studies show that more than five million animals enter shelters nationwide each year. Of those animal shelters, forty to sixty percent are lost pets. The sad truth is that one in three pets will go missing at some point, sometimes through no fault of the owner. Even the best-behaved dogs can get lost or run off unexpectedly. Microchipping dogs not only greatly increases the chances of reuniting lost dogs with their owners, but it can also help reduce overcrowding problems facing shelters across the US.
“After seeing how well our Care on the Go events are doing, and how much services like microchips are needed, we know this is a great opportunity for our community,” said Communications Supervisor, Kim Powell . “The goal of the mission is to have all Maricopa County dogs microchipped, so they can be easily returned to their owners if they get lost or separated.”
While MCACC already microchips every dog it adopts out, this event will give Maricopa County residents who may not have adopted their dog from one of its shelters the opportunity to receive free services by microchipping for their beloved dog.
To receive a microchip through the Mission Microchip event, please register for an appointment.
