Sometimes the big hospital has a special visit request. It might be visiting a long-term patient somewhere we don’t normally go. Or it can visit a section of the hospital that specifically seeks pet therapy. Our presence was once requested at a memorial service by a doctor who loved animals. And our visit this week was one of those special requests.
It was a fun one, though. Me and the other therapy cat, Josie, got to have a lunch visit with the resident physicians. They have a large meeting room set up for everyone to gather next to the cafeteria. They also had some nachos (no, I didn’t get any). It’s really casual, with people coming and going as they please. And while I’m sure most of the people there were resident physicians, I felt that some of the people, especially at the end, were just staff looking at kittens in the room and wanting to see us.
I really enjoyed being the center of attention, with Josie! All I had to do was hang out, take pictures and do some tricks. Even better, one of them brought a cat bed/tunnel combo from home for us to enjoy. Josie stuck to hanging out on people’s laps, but I went right to the place and made myself at home. I liked it! The bed is new so I wonder what happened when the woman brought it home to her cats, and I smell it.
The visit also gave my person and Josie’s people a chance to answer anyone’s questions about our therapy pet work. Some of them worked in places that weren’t usually visited, so my person told them which office handled that so they could ask.
Often in the big hospital, my person takes me to different places in different buildings and wings. It’s nice for once to just hang out somewhere for 90 minutes. And hang out on that cat bed!
