About 40 in the 80ish Golden Plover in a recently plowed field near Maidenhall Point at the National Trust’s Southwood Farm it is now very difficult to see despite strong breeding plumage.
Further north in the swamp near the farm a Grasshopper Warbler is trembling, a Sedge Warbler is singing and a couple of Reed Buntings are enjoying the sun on a fence before racing off together. A crow followed a Buzzard carrying a young rabbit, but has no idea how to steal it and gives up the chase and a Kestrel is hunting nearby. There are several Willow Warbler, Chiffchaffs and Blackcaps in hedgerows but no Whitethroats. I was not able to go to the edge of Folkston Moor or see any Yellowhammers as the Welsh Black cattle were showing too much interest in my dog companion.
Near Newgale beach a dozen Sand Martins briefly visited several nest holes in the cliff and six Fulmar ware that seems to be in four nests. A single Sandwich Tern was fishing with a few Gannets.
