BALTIMORE — The collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge not only affected the supply chain for people but also for pets.
The Maryland SPCA is looking for help. On Sunday, the organization held a pet food drive outside its headquarters in Baltimore to help pet owners affected by the fallout get supplies for their furry friends.
Everything is on the go, from dog and cat food to harnesses and kitty litter. Supplies were donated from Greater Good and Chewy. It’s all in partnership with the SPCA.
Maryland SPCA Director of Community Care and Advocacy Katie Flory hopes events like this can help ease some of the burden for unemployed port employees.
“We know that the tragedy that happened with the bridge collapse has a really big impact on the Baltimore community, but an even bigger impact on our dock workers who we know are out of a job,” Flory said. “We don’t want anyone to have to make a decision about whether to pay their electric bill or feed their pets.”
On April 11, the organization will host their Maryland SPCA Giving Day, where people can donate to the Maryland SPCA for events like this one.
