A Massachusetts dog-walker is facing criminal charges after a video of him abusing dogs went viral online.
Medford police responded to reports of animal abuse in the area of Fellsway West and Sheridan Avenue around 11 a.m. Sunday. They found a man hired to take care of a group of dogs.
Witnesses told police the man repeatedly hit the dogs in the head, and then lifted one of the dogs off the ground by its collar.
From watching the video that quickly spread on social media, police identified the suspect as Frederick Ingrando, 33 of Medford. Ingrando lists her dog walking services on the popular Rover app, which allows individuals to find care for their pets.
A spokesperson for Rover said in a statement to WCVB: “We were shocked and disturbed to learn of this abhorrent behavior – there is no tolerance for this type of treatment of pets in our community. these allegations, our 24/7 Trust and Safety Team has suspended the pet care provider’s account and is conducting a full investigation. We will also assist law enforcement to the extent possible.”
Police arrested Ingrando at his home, and the dogs in his care were taken to Ocean View Kennels in Revere, where they are being held while waiting to be picked up by their owners.
Medford police said the investigation is ongoing and there is the potential for additional criminal charges.
