There’s a new shop in Fort Worth’s Sundance Square that’s all about pets: Called The Origami Dog, it just opened at 309 Houston St., offering pet grooming, supplies, toys and food for the downtown area.
Focused primarily on dogs but also has cat supplies, Origami provides the first pet supply outlet for downtown residents and residents.
The store is from young couple Roy and Londyn Meharg, who are opening their first business as part of The Big Idea, an entrepreneurship program hosted by Sundance Square that provides assistance to small businesses.
“Our goal is to give Fort Worth pet owners who live, work, visit, shop, or dine downtown the opportunity to bring their furry loved ones to a truly peaceful and loving experience on the mend,” said Londyn.
Breed-specific grooming is done by appointment by Londyn, a former swimming coach and graduate of the Texas AllBreed Grooming School in Arlington.
“I’ve had lots of doodles and poodle mixes, I have four now,” she said. “I was spending a lot of money grooming them, and decided to learn to do it myself. I love dogs and discovered I enjoyed grooming them too.”
The shop also offers “pawdicures,” mud baths for dogs, and supplies to make sure the grooming is long-lasting and beautiful, including products like Hartman & Rose, Lucy & Co., and The Worthy Dog.
“I was surprised there was nowhere downtown that sold pet supplies,” Londyn said. “There are so many people in apartments, I thought they would appreciate having somewhere convenient and close.”
The feedback he received proved his point, with customers not only booking appointments but thanking him for bringing a convenient amenity to the neighborhood. (And for customers who drive, there is validated fee parking at Sundance Square Garage No. 3.)
There is another benefit:
“After grooming, owners can take a selfie or glamor shot with their pet next to any of the iconic landmarks at Sundance Square Plaza including the Chisholm Trail mural,” said Meharg .
