The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA said it received the donation last week, and now its pet food pantry is well stocked.
The pantry is available for residents who can provide proof of receipt of public assistance such as an EBT card, proof of Disability, Medicaid, SNAP, unemployment or WIC.
CASPCA says the pantry is one way to increase pet retention by helping families facing financial insecurity, which is one of the main reasons people give up their pets.
