Suffolk Legis. Steve Englebright hopes his constituents will join him in collecting pet food and essentials for people in need.
PORT JEFFERSON, NY — The 13th Annual Legislative Pet Food Drive Challenge to collect pet food for clients of Long Island Cares-Harry Chapin Food Bank is underway at the Legis office in Port Jefferson. Steve Englebright.
Long Island Cares established Baxter’s Pet Pantry to help families who may be struggling to feed their pets and avoid placing family pets in a shelter because of these challenges.

The trip is for all pet foods, including for reptiles, fish, ferrets, hamsters, and more. The pet pantry always needs five to ten pound bags of dog and cat food, but also accepts larger bags, as well as canned dog and cat food, cat litter, treats, and new toys.
“Ever since my dog, Buster, came into my life, he never fails to put a smile on my face,” Englebright said. “I hope my constituents will join me and my colleagues in collecting pet food and essentials for those who need help providing for and caring for their pets.”
All pet food must be unopened and in its original packaging, meaning the pantry will not accept opened or torn bags, or loose food.
Donations can be brought to the Englebright district office at 306 Main St., Port Jefferson, which is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The drop-off deadline is May 24.
