I got to visit the children’s hospital this week! We signed in at the front desk together as a mother with her daughter. The girl was sitting in some kind of combination wheelchair and gurney, and she was so happy to see me! We were all going to the second floor so he hugged me as we went up the elevator. Then the two of them headed for rehab while my husband and I went to surgery.
The nurses in the operating room loved me, so I took a photo before visiting the patient couple there. Both girls were sedated so they were a bit groggy. A large gauze bandage covered the first woman’s head, but she was conscious enough to enjoy our visit. His parents also liked me. The second girl was alone, and a bit sedated, but she hugged me too.
Returning to the lobby area, I stopped by the arts and crafts area, where some children were playing. One girl was wearing a sweat shirt with a kitty on the front, so you know she was happy to see me! I saw many children in the lobby area. One girl really wanted to see me but our visit was temporarily interrupted by another little girl running up to me. As soon as he and his family were dismissed, my man and I returned to the first woman. While her mom was away scheduling her next appointment, my human showed the girl a video of me and the peach kitty. She immediately said, “Oh, she has a boyfriend!”
Exam rooms are very busy. Not all families want to see me, that’s okay. That means, people who want to see me can. One is a young boy in a wheelchair with his mother. My human rolled a lab stool next to him, and placed me there. That’s usually the best way for me to visit patients in wheelchairs. He and his mother are very kind.
As we were looking for the next exam room to visit, a three-year-old boy walked down the hall. He has one leg in some combination of a cast and brace, but his grandfather still has trouble keeping up with him! He was very happy to see me. But in typical three-year-old fashion, he wanted to touch my legs and hug me, even though his family kept reminding him to be gentle and “no hugs.” But she wasn’t too bad, and my man was watching her every move to make sure I didn’t get uncomfortable with her. That was one of his important duties while working with me.
One of the last patients we saw was a little girl with her mother, who happened to be a veterinarian. The mother and a doctor are looking at an x-ray of her son’s spine, and he is asking all kinds of detailed questions. Meanwhile, I kept the girl busy. He must be bored without me.
I saw a lot of kids on this visit! It was a beautiful day.
Here are some other times I’ve visited here:
