A Reddit user who angered a sibling after buying the sister’s son a toy dog in lieu of a stuffed animal did nothing wrong, other users on the platform said.
“AITA? I bought a non-traditional toy for my nephew,” said Reddit user “Solid-Feature-7678” in a recent post on Reddit’s “Am I the A–hole” subreddit.
In the post, the individual said the toddler nephew “has this toy sheep that he likes” — but he tends to be rough with his toys.

“The poor little fluffball has gone to stuffed animal heaven,” said the poster in the thread, without specifying a specific gender.
The nephew was “sad” about losing his beloved toy, apparently — so Solid-Feature-7678 decided to buy him a new one.

“All the stuffed lambs I’ve been looking at are as fragile as ever, but when I’m getting some treats for my dog I’m struck by the sight of a lamb chop dog toy,” wrote Solid-Feature-7678.
The person added, “I have a brilliant idea.”
Since the toy was “made to be chewed and chewed,” Solid-Feature-7678 thought “it should be handled [any] abuse from a toddler.”
The man continued, “So I bought it and on Saturday I was babysitting my niece for my sister and [brother-in-law]. I gave the toy to my niece and she loved it.”

The toy has a squeaker, something the nephew “really liked,” says the original poster.
The boy’s mother, however, was less than thrilled with the gift.
“My full brother [lost it],” the person wrote on Reddit.
“You bought my baby a dog toy!” the sister seemed to start screaming.
Then, Solid-Feature-7678’s sister sent Reddit poster a series of texts criticizing the gift, “with a few choice expletives thrown in for good measure.”
The rest of the family is reportedly split over the gift, with the poster’s mother saying it was inappropriate, while a stepfather and stepbrother found it “funny as hell.”
The “[brother-in-law] is quietly amused, but keeps his head down,” Solid-Feature-7678 said.

Meanwhile, the young nephew seems fascinated by the new toy.
“My brother took the [toy] and my niece had a meltdown until she returned it, so now I’m getting the double stink eye from her,” wrote Solid-Feature-7678.
“And my niece still loves her Fluffball.”
The person asked the others, “So AITA? I was just trying to make my niece happy.”

The same user continued, “I am in court as a father and stepbrother. [the] tomorrow Your brother needs a better sense of humor.”
