Grand Lake – important!
Ice conditions in normal moving water areas (including Shadow Mountain) will change rapidly, pumps will return on March 5. Ice conditions will change rapidly and may be unsafe in areas which used to be safe. Use Caution when traveling on lakes from now until the end of the season.
Fishing has been fair for all species. Rainbow trout and brown trout bite best on small jointed Clam Pinhead-Mino spoons tipped with a waxie or gulp maggot. Stay mobile and target areas in 10 feet of water and on the bottom at sunrise and sunset. Lake trout action has been best in the 65-90 foot range, Radical glow grubs and Power grubs tipped with a small piece of sucker meat and covered in your favorite scent are bringing the bites.
Williams Fork Reservoir
The slush conditions have settled by now and the journey has been good, despite the heavy snowfall. Fishing for rainbow trout and brown trout is slow due to constant gill lice correction and no stocking.
Trout action on the lake has been fair to good depending on the day. The best action for lake trout is on break lines in 50-80 feet of water, with P&D Lure Co. 3-inch tubes and grubs in chartreuse, pink or white colors. If the bite slows down that means it’s time for a dead stick bait resting on the bottom. Top it with a small piece of fresh breast milk to attract additional bites.
Lake Granby – important!
Ice conditions in normal areas of moving water and shallow areas will change quickly, bombs will return on March 5. Be careful as many areas will be unsafe. Be careful when traveling on lakes from now until the end of the season.
Lake Granby is currently about 10 feet below the tree. Rainbow trout and brown trout action has been fair. The best bite is on dam faces and creek mouths in less than 12 feet of water. A Jawjacker with a white Atomic tube or a bright pink Swedish Pimple spoon with a waxie tip has been the best producer.
Trout action in the lake has been fair depending on the day. Best action is in 60-90 feet of water on heavier profile grubs and 3-inch tubes in pink and white colors. When the bite is tough downsize to a Simcoe bug tipped with a sucker to keep the finicky fish biting.
Trophy fish action has been slow, but should improve as water begins to move through the system this week.
