SHREVEPORT, La. – It’s Wednesday and it’s time for Paws to Care for our four-legged friends.
This week, Pet Savers joins us on KTBS 3 News Midday to show us how we can make a big difference in the lives of furry friends.
If you are interested in adopting, here are just a few of the agencies throughout ArkLaTex that you may want to contact.
Shelter vs. Rescue
Some of the advantages of adopting from a shelter is that you can see many pets for adoption at the same time in their facility. Many shelters have a very easy or no screening process, and will let you take home any pet you want the same day. Adoption fees are usually lower than rescue, but you may have to pay for additional veterinary care after adoption.
Some of the advantages of adopting from a rescue is that they often know a lot about each of the pets in their care, as the pets may be in foster homes. A rescue may have a more involved screening process, which may take more time, but will help you adopt a pet that is more likely to be an easier match for your home. Adoption fees are usually higher than at a shelter, but often include veterinary care which will cost more if you pay the vet yourself.
We are here to help along with the agencies listed below. We’ve also included a little information about the difference between adopting from a shelter and getting into a rescue.
Thank you for considering pet adoption and for visiting the following sites for more information. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
KTBS is not responsible for pets that are adopted.
