ClyweDog Groomers is bringing its full range of grooming services and pet accessory shop to Llanidloes when it opens its doors on Saturday after making an exciting move to a former bike shop on Great Oak Street.
Owner Charlotte Powell, who grew up in Wales and recently returned to her roots to be close to family, brought her successful grooming business from Berkshire.
“Coming home and being close to the rest of my family who have been amazingly supportive is very important to me. It’s a local and family business,” she said.
OTHER NEWS:
Charlotte decided to train as a groomer after struggling to find a professional groomer for her own dogs.
“I’ve had some very bad experiences. I’m surprised that so many people are organizing without proper training or qualifications.
“My dogs are my world and finding someone they are comfortable with always seems like a challenge.”
With a Level 2 and 3 City Guilds Qualification in Dog Grooming under her belt, Charlotte attends seminars and takes advice from leading groomers such as leading dog expert Julie Harris, to learn new strategy.
“Grooming should be a comfortable and enjoyable experience for the dog, so I completed courses in canine anatomy, reiki, coat and skin management,” says Charlotte.
“Overall, the safety of the dog entrusted to me is my priority, so I am trained in canine first aid and welfare, and run my business fully insured. This is my profession, so I am a member of the Pet Industry Federation and the Groomers’ Spotlight.”
Charlotte says that regular grooming brings many benefits for dogs for the condition of their skin, coat and overall health depending on it.
“As a trained organizer, I can pick up and bring things to the owner’s attention that they might otherwise overlook,” he explains. “Grooming your dog every six to eight weeks allows us to see small changes in weight, the odd lumps and bumps, tender areas.”
Bookings for dogs in need of a spruce up can now be made via the ClyweDog Groomers Facebook page.
Charlotte and the team will be hosting an open day with treats for both dogs and owners on Saturday (March 2) from 11am at 2 Great Oak Street, Llanidloes.
